Senior Hurlers start well

Our senior hurlers opened their Championship account for 2017 with a good victory over Senior new boys Cappamore in Kilmallock on Saturday night.
We lined out minus the services of various starting players but as is the system the Intermediate team members filled the gaps and filled them well.
We also saw the reappearance of Kevin Downes after his lengthy layoff with cruciate ligament damage and he saw crucial game time and contributed with an excellent point from the touch line.
With hurled very well in patches and took some great scores with all 6 forwards and both midfielders on the scoresheet.
James O Brien also chipped in with 3 points of his own from the half back line whilst alongside him Niall Buckley and Ronan Lynch were to the fore.
Both our goals coming in the first half, the first from David Dempsey following a stop by the keeper.
The second goal was a thing of beauty with a glorious pin point pass from Kevin Ryan to the hand of Adrian Breen who shot first time to the back of the net.
We led 2-12 to 0-5 At the break.
Shane Dowling’s accuracy from placed balls was excellent again as he kept the scoreboard ticking over.
That Breen goal and the introduction of Kevin Downes were no doubt the highlights of a good workmanlike performance from the lads.
Final Score Na Piarsaigh 2-23 Cappamore 0-12.
Next up for the lads are county champions Patrickswell on Saturday evening in the Gaelic Grpunds
