Under 21 footballers come up short

Our under 21 footballers came up short on Friday evening when they were edged out by a very good Newcastlewest side after a very entertaining County Final played in Mick Neville Park under lights.

The game ebbed and flowed with some excellent points scored by both teams but it was NCW who struck the first goal midway through the half to lead by four. However our lads battled back with points from Dylan Cronin and Kieran Daly before we conceded a second goal.
Credit to our lads who never dropped their heads and  a goal from David Dempsey dragged us right back into the game on the stroke of half time and this was followed by a point from fullback Mike Casey to leave the half time score 1-7 to 2-6 in NCW favour. We did have another glorious goal chance but somehow Dylan Cronin couldnt convert it.
A second David Dempsey goal left a solitary point between the sides with just over 15 minutes remaining bit it was then that NCW hit a purple patch and rattled off 4 unanswered points to open up a gap which we couldnt close.
A Peter Casey goal in the final few minutes did give us hope but it wasn’t to be for our gallant footballers and we lost out on a final scoreline of 3-13 to 3-7

Best on the night were Gordon Brown, Mike Casey, Peter Casey, David Dempsey and Tommy Grimes whilst all others showed great battling spirit.
Team: Luke Moylan, Ruairi O Connaill, Mike Casey(0-1), Robbie Graham, Gordon Brown(capt)(0-1), Ronan Lynch, Evan Gilvarry, Tommy Grimes, Evan O Brien, Kieran Daly(0-3,1f), Peter Casey(1-1), Donal O Connaill, Dylan Cronin(0-1), David Dempsey(2-0), Daragh O Gorman.  Subs: Will Henn, Kevin Daly, Ian Considine, Cameron DiBenniditto, Jamie Wilson, Conor Houlihan

Minor Footballers take City Title

Our Minor footballers gave another fighting display to see off the challenge of a very fine Mungret team  in the City Minor final replay  last Friday evening , on a final score of 4- 9 to 4-4 .

Allan O Sullivan got on to a rebound and  volleyed low and hard  early in the game to score our first goal. However Mungret hit back with 3 goals to lead by 3-2 to 1-6  at half time . Continue reading
