Senior Hurlers advance in Munster

Our senior hurlers were back in Munster Club action on Sunday when all roads led to Sixmilebridge to take on the locals in their own backyard.

On our previous meeting in Munster Final of 2013 we won the game fairly comprehensively but we knew on this occasion things would be much tighter. Having won the toss the Bridge decided to play with the elements and raced into an early lead.

It was 7 minutes before we registered a score which came courtesy of Adrian Breen with a goal having been set up by a wonderful run by David Dempsey.

Mid way through the half it was honors even 0-4 to 1-1 but then the Bridge took over with an unanswered 1-6 to their credit.
We also had a point blank save from Podge Kennedy to be thankful for during that spell.
David Dempsey finally broke the barren spell and a pointed free from Shane Dowling sent us in at the break 1-12 to 1-3 in arrears.
It was widely agreed around the ground that the strong wind was worth a big lead but just how much was the question we all wanted answered.
The second half required a big performance from the lads and it was Kevin Downes who got the show on the road with a goal inside 2 minutes of the restart.
Kevin added a point soon after and now we were right back in the game.
Sixmilebridge responded with 2 Niall Gilligan frees to increase their lead but mid way through the half we had our 3rd goal when Kevin Downes won a long ball before feeding Peter Casey who crashed the ball to the roof of the net.Game on.
With 15 minutes left we trailed on a scoreline of 1-15 to 3-7 and from their to the finish we held our opponents scoreless.
Points from Kevin Ryan and a huge free from Ronan Lynch drew the game level before the final two scores came from Adrian Breen and a 65 from Shane Dowling.
With the game in injury time we conceded a 20 meter free which Gilligan needed to goal for victory but the free was deflected out for a 65 and the game was over.
A wonderful battling performance again from the team who again showed great heart for the battle.
We had solid performances from Michael Casey,Kieran Breen,Will O Donoghue,Shane Dowling, Kevin Downes and Adrian Breen.
